Frequently Asked
Questions

Beliefs and Theology

What does your church believe about the Bible?

The Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God intended to unveil the story of reconciliation that Jesus has written with his life, death and resurrection. The Bible was written by people inspired by the Holy Spirit and  offers instruction for understanding the doctrine and practice of the faith for those choosing to follow Jesus. It is not bound by culture and proclaims a glorious eternal freedom that people of faith can pursue.

What is your view on salvation and how someone is saved?

Salvation comes through faith alone and is the free gift of God to all who believe. We are called to acknowledge our universal and comprehensive nature that is tainted by sin and selfishness. We are by nature idol builders and have to come to the realization that putting Jesus at the center of everything is the only way to true salvation. Complete surrender to our need for a savior is required and confession leading to repentance is the salvivic response.

Do you baptize infants or only believers?

We practice believer’s baptism. The challenge that Jesus gave his Church was to make disciples, teach them and baptize them. Our understanding of that indicates that people will choose to follow Jesus at a point in their maturity where they can make that intentional choice. At that point baptism is the next step of obedience for the follower of Jesus. Infants have no ability to take that step of surrender and faith. We treat all children in the church family as potential followers of Jesus.

What is your stance on communion?

Communion is an ordinance of the Church given by Jesus to his followers as a means of commemorating the freedom offered through the cross. Communion is symbolic in nature and the elements offer a representation of the body and blood of Jesus. The bread points to the sacrifice of Jesus’ body as the righteous offering that was given in the place of our sinful flesh. The juice represents the blood of Jesus that fulfills the requirement of the law and points to the Passover provision that protects believers from the death that we have earned by our sin. Every time that the family of faith takes part in communion we are proclaiming the death of Jesus until he returns.

How do you approach controversial or culturally sensitive topics?

We believe that the Bible is the clear and unquestioned authority for everything that we may encounter in this life. We stand on what the scriptures say about all issues, whether culturally sensitive or not. Our focus is always Kingdom of Jesus over culture.

What is your position on spiritual gifts and the Holy Spirit?

We believe that all followers of Jesus become filled with the Holy Spirit as an abiding presence to enhance and empower the gifts we have been given for ministry. The Holy Spirit is our helper, our conscience and intercedes in prayer at the depths of our soul. We believe that each believer has been entrusted with Spiritual Gifts that are meant for the benefit and building up of the Church. All the gifts are valued equally and are offered as an opportunity to point to God’s glory.

Church Structure & Leadership

Who leads the church? What’s the role of pastors/elders?

Quest seeks to follow the order of leadership outlined in the Bible for Church polity. We have an elder board that offers spiritual and practical leadership for the church family. The day-to-day operation is managed by the pastoral team and the rest of the staff with elder accountability and oversight.

How are decisions made in the church?

The pastoral team provides visionary leadership for the church family in collaboration with the staff team and the elders. Our church structure is based on the concept of providing appropriate authority to accompany the various levels and areas of responsibility.

Are you affiliated with a denomination or larger organization?

We are a non-denominational church and operate independently of other churches. We will choose ministry partners for specific areas of calling regarding missions and outreach in our community and abroad.

What kind of accountability does the leadership have?

The elders operate in plurality and provide oversight and accountability to the pastors and staff.

Membership & Involvement

What does it mean to be a member here?

We don’t have formal membership in the traditional sense. We believe more in the concept of family on mission. Those who are a part of the family will be attending regularly, giving financially, serving faithfully, and participating in discipleship groups.

Am I required to be a member to serve or lead?

We believe that serving is the natural response of those who wish to join us on mission. Leadership positions come in time for those who present themselves with the giftedness and calling for those roles.

What’s the process for becoming a member?

The transition into the family of faith is defined by what we call our Core 4.

  • Tri Quest - attend 3 times to see if we may be the right church for you

  • Discover Class - Learn the mission, vision and values that drive us

  • Foundations - Learning what we believe and how we apply it

  • Connect and Serve - joining Connect Groups and Serve teams

How do I find a small group or community group?

We maintain information for each Connect Group that indicates times and locations. This information can be found on site in various locations as well as on our website.
Filling out a Connect Card will enter you into our pathway of information that will help with the process as well.

What volunteer opportunities are available?

We have multiple Serve Teams that offer opportunities to impact our mission of multiplication. The comprehensive Serve Team list is available in printed form on site as well as through filling out a Connect Card.

Family & Kids

What programs do you offer for children and youth?

We offer Bible study for High School age students on Sunday mornings during our second service.  Also, we offer specific time of discipleship for fifth and sixth graders during third service. Students 7-12 grade gather on Sunday evenings from 5–6:30. Children birth through fourth grade gather in our Kids Quest area on Thursdays and Sundays during all of our worship services.

Is childcare provided during services or events?

We generally provide childcare and discipleship for children at most of our services and events, depending on the purpose of the gathering.

How do you ensure the safety of children in your care?

We utilize a check-in system that allows us to make sure that only approved people are picking up any child in our care. We also have a secured area that is monitored for access. We have cameras installed in all areas where instruction of children is taking place. Additionally, all of our volunteers for children and youth go through background checks.

Giving & Finances

How does the church handle finances?

We have implemented a system of security and accountability that offers protection for all money that is given for the mission of the church. We receive tithes and offerings electronically and in person. We have a financial assistant who handles all donation accounting and accounts payable. We have an accountant who does all bank reconciliations and provides budget reports for ongoing management. Our elders are signing agents on all of our financial accounts. The staff do not know who gives what to the church.

Where does my tithe or offering go?

Our pastoral and staff team develop a yearly budget that is finalized and approved by our elders. The money that is given goes to the ongoing financial needs of the ministry to keep us in motion.

What does financial accountability look like?

The Elders have the final authority regarding finances. They meet monthly with the pastoral team to review the financial reports. The system of payments and accounting has built-in accountability with multiple people involved.

Culture, Sexuality & Gender

What is your church’s view on gender roles in leadership?

We believe men and women are equally valued and gifted by God. In line with Scripture, we hold that the roles of elder and  pastor are reserved for qualified men, while women serve in a wide range of leadership roles.

Can women serve as pastors, elders, or preach on Sundays?

Women can teach and lead in many areas, including speaking on Sundays. We affirm their voice and leadership, while reserving elder and pastor roles for qualified men based on our biblical convictions.

What is your approach to LGBTQ+ individuals and families?

We welcome all people with the love and grace of Jesus. We believe God’s design for sexuality is within marriage between one man and one woman. Our goal is to walk with people wherever they are, offering truth, compassion, and community.

What does your church teach about sexuality and marriage?

Marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, reflecting Christ’s love for the Church. Sexual expression is a gift from God, designed for that covenant relationship.

How do you balance truth and grace in conversations about cultural issues?

We lead with love, rooted in the truth of God’s Word. We listen to people’s stories, speaking truth gently, and extending grace continually.

Will people from different backgrounds or lifestyles feel welcomed here?

Yes! Our church is intentionally multicultural and committed to removing barriers to the Gospel. Wherever you’re coming from, you can belong, be loved, and grow here.
