Worship Team Audition Process

Thank you for your interest in joining the Worship Team! We're passionate about building a team of worshippers who are spiritually grounded, musically excellent, and team-minded. This process is designed to help us walk together in discernment and preparation. Each step is important, and progression is based on readiness and alignment with our heart for worship.

Understanding our Posture:

A Biblical Model of Worship — Isaiah 6

Isaiah 6 provides a powerful example of true worship—without a single note of music. The prophet recounts a vision where he sees the Lord seated on a lofty, exalted throne, His robe filling the temple. Seraphim declare, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory.” The foundations tremble, and the temple fills with smoke in response to their praise.

Isaiah’s response unfolds in four key movements:

  1. Revelation – Isaiah is confronted with the overwhelming majesty and holiness of God.

  2. Conviction – He becomes deeply aware of his own sinfulness and unworthiness.

  3. Atonement – A seraph touches his lips with a coal from the altar, declaring his sins forgiven.

  4. Commission – God asks, “Whom shall I send?” and Isaiah responds, “Here am I. Send me!”

This encounter exemplifies worship as a heart posture—marked by awe, humility, grace, and obedience. Worship begins with recognizing God’s glory, leads to personal repentance, receives His unmerited grace, and responds with a life surrendered to His mission.

For the believer, this is a daily reality: we encounter God’s holiness, confront our sin, receive His grace, and are called to live lives of worship—proclaiming His goodness to a world in need.

Attitude and Posture Towards Excellence

At Quest, we believe that excellence honors God and inspires those around us. With this guiding principle, we strive to create an environment free from distractions—both in sight and sound. We recognize that God has entrusted us with blessings that we are called to steward and manage with great care. That's why we go beyond the ordinary, always pushing to do our best, rather than settling for just "good enough."

Membership & Attendance Expectations

As a visible ministry within the church, the worship team should reflect a committed connection to the body. At Quest, that process begins with attending a Discover Class if you haven’t already.

Regular attendance is also essential. Team members are expected to be engaged in corporate worship, even on Sundays when they aren’t scheduled to serve. Of course, we understand that life happens—illness, travel, and family obligations are real—but consistent participation is encouraged as part of our shared commitment to spiritual growth and community.

In-Ear Monitors

We use in-ear monitors rather than stage wedges to help with clarity, reduce volume on stage, and enable the use of click tracks, loops, and vocal cues. Auditions will include playing with a metronome to assess comfort with this setup.

Each team member is responsible for bringing their own in-ear monitors. These can be any headphones or earbuds with a 1/8” (3.5mm) jack. For better isolation and sound quality, here are a couple of affordable recommendations:

Let’s Get Started!

Step 1: Preliminary Video Submission

We ask all potential team members to submit a video audition. This helps us get a first look at your musical ability and stage presence.

Upload video here:

What to include:

- A worship song (preferably one we sing regularly)

- Clear video and audio

- Singers: Sing with a track or instrument

- Instrumentalists: Play along with a track or metronome

You'll receive a response once we've reviewed your video. If approved, you'll be invited to move forward.

Step 2: Conversation on Faith and Heart

This is a personal sit-down with your designated coach. It's not a test-it's a chance to hear your story and share ours. We'll talk about:

- Your relationship with Jesus

- Your heart for worship

- Alignment with our church's values and expectations for team members

- What you feel are your strengths and weaknesses

We believe character is just as important as skill, so this step matters deeply to us.

Step 3: Rehearsal Integration

If the first two steps are successful, you'll begin attending rehearsals. We typically require 2 rehearsal nights before your first serve, but that number can shift depending on how ready you are. This time is for:

- Learning our flow and culture

- Building chemistry with the team

- Growing in confidence and preparation

Your designated team leader will give feedback and help determine when you're ready for your first serve.

Step 4: First Serve (With Coaches Oversight)

Once ready, you'll officially serve for the first time with support from a designated Coach. They'll walk closely with you to ensure you feel confident and equipped.

Please Note:

Each step in this process is a 'pass/retake' moment-not in a harsh way, but in a way that honors the responsibility of leading worship. Our goal is to build a team that is both spiritually and musically prepared. If we believe more time is needed before moving forward, we'll lovingly communicate that and offer guidance for growth.

Thank you again for your desire to serve. We believe worship is holy ground, and we're honored you'd want to stand on it with us.
